July’s Volunteer of The Month!

Author: Mary Kloser

July’s Volunteer of the Month is Pratik Lokhande! Pratik took charge of our technical research team back in 2021, and has been the “go-to” guy for anything and everything related to materials and land use of various energy sources. He’s got an eye for detail and a knack for making complex data digestible.

Last week Pratik took a 10+ hour train ride from Pune to Goa to represent Generation Atomic on a panel at the Clean Energy Ministerial.

It’s not the first time Pratik has traveled great distances to advocate for nuclear — he also proved his mettle at the COP27 in Egypt last year. He was one of the MVPs of Gen A’s booth — spending long hours passionately talking to hundreds of people about the importance of nuclear energy.

Continue reading to learn more about Pratik and how he got started in the nuclear field.

Q: When did you first get into nuclear advocacy and why?

A: “From the beginning of 2020 I realized there are many things that can be done to advance nuclear other than pure research.”

Q: What has been one of your favorite moments while being a nuclear advocate?

A: “Being at COP27 and talking with people from developing countries that are looking for stable sustainable energy sources for their energy mix; also, talking with people who oppose nuclear as green energy source and discussing why the stigma about nuclear [could be one aspect that’s affecting] why they don’t support it and what should be an ideal energy mix.”

Q: What hopes do you have for the future of nuclear energy?

A: “We are at the beginning of a nuclear renaissance. I hope to see nuclear grow and be applicable in various sectors; not just for energy and electricity but also medical, agriculture, space exploration etc.”

So here’s a big virtual high-five to Pratik! His dedication, passion, and hard work are truly inspiring, and we’re incredibly grateful for all he does. Congratulations, Pratik, on being our well-deserved July Volunteer of the Month. Keep rocking the energy world!
