In the next couple of months, Generation Atomic will be launching a new magazine on Medium. Our goal is to provide unique stories about atomic energy that can’t be found anywhere else.

We’re looking for talented writers to contribute novel, surprising and personal stories with the power to change the way people think about atomic energy. Original reporting and interview is especially valued.

Whilst we’re open to ideas for articles (see below), we’re particularly interested in nuclear stories around the following topics:

  • Nuclear startups and entrepreneurs — stories about dynamic, young nuclear companies trying to bring a great product to market.
  • Big Tech goes nuclear — think Bill Gates and other Silicon Valley investors and their investments in nuclear.
  • Nuclear and nature — stories about wildlife thriving in the areas around nuclear plants.
  • Beautiful design — stories about great architecture and design in nuclear.
  • The role of atomic energy in disaster relief — think floating SMRs.
  • Nuclear education — stories of educating children to understand nuclear science. Also, stories about schools funded by tax receipts from nuclear plants.
  • Energy poverty — the role of nuclear in tackling energy poverty.
  • Atoms in space — this could be a piece about NASA’s plans to nuclear power our way to Mars.
  • Visual perfection — beautiful photographs, drawings, paintings of nuclear plants.
  • A day in the life — stories from nuclear operators and engineers. Stories about local businesses who depend on nuclear plants.
  • Coal deaths — stories about how living close to fossil fuel plants is damaging the health of locals.
  • Counter-factual history — where would we be if the nuclear build out had kept on going past the 80’s?
  • Climate justice — stories about the positive role of nuclear energy in providing clean energy and high-skilled jobs to remote communities.
  • Nuclear and AI — what role will artificial intelligence play in nuclear reactors?
  • Stories that link nuclear into other trending topics such as blockchain, carbon tax (connected to a universal basic income?), and the future of work.
  • National Security — nuclear’s role in reducing dependency on fuels imported from political adversaries.
  • Big oil — how the growth of nuclear would take power away from oil companies and reduce instability in the Middle East.

If you have an idea around one of these topics, or something completely different, then check out our pitch guidelines here.
